ADHD In Practice: Clinical Case Studies from Basics to Complexity

Date: 24 March 2026

Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (AEDT)

Three cases. One framework. From “Is this ADHD?” to “What do I actually do next?”

Join Dr Sanil Rege for a 3-hour webinar using ADHD clinical case studies to translate the ADHD curriculum into structured, real-world clinical decision-making.

The session uses three cases to consolidate assessment, formulation, and management planning when presentations involve overlap with sleep disturbance, anxiety, mood symptoms, trauma-related features, and functional impairment.

Through structured case discussion, participants will work through the clinical reasoning required to move from diagnostic uncertainty to practical management planning in everyday clinical practice.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Apply a stepwise 9-step ADHD assessment model to support diagnostic accuracy and defensible clinical reasoning
  • Evaluate comorbidities and differentiate ADHD from overlapping presentations, including trauma-related symptoms, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance-related factors, and sleep pathology
  • Determine when stimulant treatment is appropriate, and individualise pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies when it is not
  • Develop a shared formulation and management plan with clear targets, monitoring parameters, and long-term sustainability
  • Integrate evidence-based guidelines with complex presentations, including risk assessment, treatment sequencing, and follow-up planning

Course Structure: Three Clinical Cases

Case 1 — Diagnostic Assessment Using the 9-Step Model

  • Applying the 9-step model to comprehensive assessment and diagnosis
  • Systematic evaluation of comorbidities and diagnostic differentials
  • Formulation-driven decision-making and documentation standards
  • Translating assessment findings into a management plan with agreed targets and monitoring

Case 2 — Sleep and ADHD: Overlap, Mechanisms, and Assessment Principles

  • Shared symptom profiles and common diagnostic pitfalls
  • Relevant neurobiology: arousal regulation, circadian timing, attentional control, and emotional regulation
  • Assessment principles to distinguish primary sleep pathology from ADHD-related sleep disruption
  • Structuring a sleep-informed ADHD management plan, including sequencing and outcome monitoring

Case 3 — ADHD and Complexity: Management Under Uncertainty

  • Managing emotional dysregulation, fluctuating functioning, and multi-morbidity
  • Individualising medication strategies, including when stimulants are not first-line
  • Recognising partial response patterns, adverse effects, and dose–response considerations
  • Long-term planning: review intervals, monitoring measures, and shared decision-making in complex care
