Course Description

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) – A Practical Guide

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that often goes underdiagnosed. Both premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder are considered core premenstrual disorders (core PMD).

PMDD affects about 3–9% of women. It is often underdiagnosed due to it being undifferentiated from PMS; however, PMDD patients experience greater physical and psychological symptoms that significantly impair their functioning and quality of life. (Malvika & Supriya, 2019)

Gain valuable insights into the multifaceted dimensions of PMDD to empower your clinical practice and provide optimal care for individuals experiencing PMDD. This course is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to detect and manage this often-underdiagnosed condition effectively.

Participants will delve into the symptoms and risk factors for premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Through a PMDD symptoms chart, diagnostic criteria, and other tools, the course enables participants to make an accurate PMDD diagnosis and distinguish PMDD from similar conditions.

A significant portion of the course explores various management strategies for premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Participants will learn about the latest advancements in PMDD therapy, including an overview of effective meds for PMDD and insights into PMDD hormone treatment strategies. Moreover, the course will highlight non-pharmacological management strategies, examining how dietary modifications (PMDD diet), lifestyle changes, psychological therapies and other therapies can complement medical treatments to enhance patient outcomes.

This course is not only a deep dive into the medical aspects of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), but also a journey into its psychological impact and management options. By looking into the range of pharmacological, behavioral, psychological, nutritional, surgical and hormonal treatments available, practitioners will be able to recommend comprehensive, empathetic, and effective care to individuals with PMDD.

Ideal for clinicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals, this course is a valuable resource for anyone looking to enhance their understanding of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and improve the quality of life for women affected by this challenging condition.
